This pub has been voted by our readers as one of the best pubs in Wandsworth.

This place is a member of the Geronimo chain, so you kind of know what to expect in advance.

The food menu, in common with most Geronimo places, comprises a best-of-British selection.

Our pub tour visited on a Tuesday evening and found the place bustling to the point where we couldn't get a table.

We can only imagine how popular the place is on a Friday.

Head up Alma Road from Wandsworth Town station and you will be greeted by The East Hill, a quaint and friendly little gastro-pub that offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of nearby Clapham Junction.

With comfy leather sofas to sink into and book cases lining the walls, this pub is designed to be a cosy home away from home.

The food menu is focussed on freshly prepared food and consists predominantly of classic British dishes, often with a twist to give them a signature East Hill style.

The classic Fish Pie becomes the Posh Fish pie and is made with Haddock and a poached egg, whereas the menu also features more exotic favourites like the Thai Green Vegetable Curry.

During the week the pub plays host to it's ever popular pub quiz and there's even an outdoor terrace for when the sun feels like shining!

This is a traditional old boozer given a big lick of paint and a lot of love, and since it opened a year ago it has stolen the hearts not just of the hip, arty FILTH “Failed In London Try Hastings” crowd, but also the old-school stalwarts: the hippies, the fishermen and a host of other characters who call this seaside town home.

There’s straw-coloured, earthy but citrusy Hastings Beer’s Saison Simple (4% abv) from nearby St Leonard’s as well as their 3Cs American Pale Ale.

There’s a whole host of stuff from outside Sussex, including St Michael’s Bitter (4%), from the Cornish Crown Brewery and Black IPA (5.9%) from TicketyBrew in Stalybridge.

• Six beers that changed the world With fishing boats landing their catch directly on Hastings beach, and smokeries abounding, the Crown’s menu really makes the best of the local larder – skate wing, mussels, peas, peashoots, leeks and seafood cream followed by strawberries, shortbread, vanilla cream and lemon meringue ice cream from nearby Bodiam.

And in its bid to truly embrace localism, the Crown hosts regular events including a crafting bee – think macramé potholder weaving and leather coin-purse making – and “Sunday stories in the snug”; there’s a pub quiz, occasional music and odd sessions such as wild foraging followed by cocktail making and brewery tap takeovers.

Cliff Railways - East Hill - Visit 1066 Country

The East Hill Lift provides access to Hastings Country Park which overlooks the Old Town and Rock-a-Nore.

It was in the country park that Hastings resident John Logie Baird, the inventor of television, got the inspiration which led to his first TV experiments.

It casts a welcoming shadow over Europe's largest beach launched fishing fleet and provides thousands of residents and visitors easy access to the Hastings Country Park and some of the most spectacular vantage points over the town.

The Council responded with a petition of its own in which 500 residents offered their support for the idea of a cliff railway.

Construction of the Railway If the Council had found the planning process to be tough, it was nothing compared to the nightmare of the actual construction.

We tucked into roast lamb and a very tasty, if a little stingy, piece of pork belly before coming third in their pub quiz.

In terms of pub quizes it's the best we've been to with a great quiz master and very lively crowd.

Maybe next time we'll improve on third.
