It takes something special to get Zohra and I to trek across the river to South London and Chit Chaat Chai is just that.

Having read about their lunch menu on the way to the restaurant, it didn’t take too long to decide on our chaats.

I’ve had many a cup of chai at various Indian restaurants around London and Chit Chaat Chai hands down serve my favourite cuppa.

Overall at just £7 for two courses, Chit Chaat Chai’s lunch menu is great value for money.

Although the menu doesn’t contain some of our favourite chaats that are served at the restaurant (to be expected), it is still sure to leave you more than satisfied.

I kicked off Friday with pizza at Pizza Union, Saturday with a steak sandwich at Drunch and yummy fried chicken at Mother Clucker, Sunday with Nandos and finally, on Monday, ended with Chit Chaat Chai… And an empty wallet *sigh*.

Chit Chaat Chai, if you didn’t already guess, is not your typical Indian restaurant… with the focus being chaat rather than kebabs and curries!

Tania and Dhruv, owners of Chit Chaat Chai, brought their own stall to the streets of London and have now opened up a new restaurant in Wandsworth.

Chit Chaat Chai offers a really delicious take on pani puri, which I would recommend.

Mum and I opted for Chit Chaat Chai’s gluten free, flourless cake (you know, to be healthy and all).

Tania and Dhruv's inspiration to create Chit Chaat Chai came from an unrivalled passion to bring honest authentic Indian Street Food accompanied with different flavours of Chai to the masses.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Indian food is curry...well, this is where Chit Chaat Chai comes in!

Chaats bring people from different backgrounds and social classes together to share in the Street Food indulgence and most importantly enjoy a good old Chit Chaat whilst at it!

Hosting Supper Clubs provide Tania and Dhruv with the perfect recipe to experiment their creative flare with a broader range of Chaat dishes from other regions of India and Bengal, whilst keeping true to the origins of authentic Indian Street Food.

Join us for an informal, friendly and fun evening where we engage all your senses whilst having a good old Chit Chat over a Chaat or two - just like at the Street Food vendors in the Indian sub-continent!

The next pop-up to hit Hackney art and gallery space Proud East is Chit Chaat Chai, an Indian street food restaurant from Wandsworth, who’ll be settling in for the duration of the gallery's summer-long Pop-Up India event.

Chit Chaat Chai’s speciality is chaat, the small sharing plates of Indian food from which they take their name, which they’ll be serving up to visitors throughout the Pop-Up India event with a suitably London-y twist.

Afterwards, you'll be encouraged to linger and take in a spot of Bollywood cinema, henna, or live sitar on the terrace overlooking Regent’s Canal, as part of the schedule for Pop-Up India.

This small, independent restaurant on the ‘high street’ of the Tonsleys (an affluent, village-y enclave of streets close to Wandsworth Town railway station), started life the way any self-respecting London restaurant does these days: as a pop-up.

As its name suggests, Chit Chaat Chai specialises in chaat (Indian roadside snacks), the best of which were the crunchy puri (small, deep-fried cases made from wafer-thin unleavened bread), stuffed with various fillings, including yoghurt, chutney and pomegranate seeds.

The compact menu also features three ‘large plates’, including the highlight of the meal, a lamb ‘railway curry’ (the recipe was apparently used to feed the passengers travelling in Indian first-class carriages).

The curry was the kind of dish that would have benefited from serving a day after cooking (or being taken home and devoured the next day).

But prices are refreshingly low (there’s even a bargain-basement lunch menu) and service from the hip young team couldn’t be more welcoming.
