Below the windows, a blackboard leans against the wall, advertising both the pub’s award-winning sausages and the day’s real ales.
The Harp might be slap bang in the middle of tourist London, but it miraculously retains the feel of a friendly neighbourhood local.
They provide a history of the Harp’s current status as a well-regarded and well-awarded champion of cask beer, which has recently culminated in the coveted National Pub of the Year award from CAMRA.
The young bar staff are friendly, happily offering samplers of any of the eight beers on display — a bibulous challenge to any beer fan with time on their hands.
As I stand at the bar, studying my glass of Harvey’s, I fall into conversation with a fellow beer aficionado.

CAMRA National Pub of the Year 2010/2011, London Cider Pub of the Year 2011 We know from bitter experience (pun only vaguely intended) that it can sometimes be a bit of a challenge to find a traditional pub serving excellent real ale in the West End, which is why it’s worth knowing about the Harp.
This is fortunate, as the pub can get quite busy at times – seats (or stools) were at a premium during our last Monday evening visit, but we found that the constant ebb and flow of clientele ensured a suitable seating vacancy before too long.
Enjoy several Dark Star ales, or a magnificent American Pale Ale (an English golden ale made with American ingredients and inspiration).
We also appreciate the ever-dependable Proper Job from St Austell (a session IPA, if there is such a thing) and Titanic’s Engine Room (yet another lively and strongly-hopped pale ale).
Of course the offerings were not all of our favoured pale variety, with nicely balanced best bitters, toasty amber ales and pleasant milds also on offer, and Harvey’s Sussex Best and Sambook’s Wandle listed as regulars.

This characterful but cramped old pub a stone’s throw from Charing Cross station offers a rotating selection of 20 or so brews, main focusing on real ales.
And as a regular CAMRA award winner, you can rest assured they’re in good condition.
The much-loved pub is a favourite drinking spot among many London drinkers.
Nicely tucked away round the corner from Covent Garden and Leicester Square, The Harp is the pub of choice for beer connoisseurs due to the fact it offers an unrivalled selection of draught ales in the area.
The stained glass windows and portraits on the walls make it a beautiful setting for a drink, and it’s good value for money too: It’s no wonder so many Londoners are fond of this Chandos Place drinking spot.

Inside, the Harp is a shrine for beer buffs, spread across two narrow floors and invariably rammed with punters.
This often makes the place appear smaller than it actually is, but squeeze past the crowds and you'll find there's plenty of space to sit and sip while marvelling at the impressive collage of beer badges stuck above the bar.
The range of ciders and ales on offer here is outstanding and the prices are blissfully low, both of which have helped to cement the Harp's reputation as a destination for true ale-ficienados.
And it's not just us who thinks so: Camra named this place National Pub of the Year in 2011.
