So as the last firework of the closing ceremony faded, I was left feeling rather flat… So I thought, what’s a better way to get back some fizz than with a champagne pairing evening courtesy of French Bubbles?

The concept started as a pop up last Christmas (2011) and proved so popular that husband and wife team, Maud and Stefano gave Champagne + Fromage a permanent home on the edge of London’s Theatreland, just a short cheese wheel’s roll away from Covent Garden Piazza.

In fact the venue has become so respected that if you type in ‘champagne tasting + London’ into Google, Champagne + Fromage is the top result.

Champagne + Fromage also has a private dining area for twelve, (this is where the tastings are held) if that’s too small you can hire the entire place for corporate events.

Maud explained in detail that the champagne is made in individual bottles and the fascinating step by step procedure that sets champagne apart from other sparkling wines, such as Prosecco and Cava.

The cheese is looked after by Une Normande à Londres, a family-owned company dedicated to bringing the best artisan cheeses, cured meats and preserves from France to London.

The menu is made up of cheese and charcuterie boards, baked cheeses, salads, tartines, and a small selection of desserts.

The other half of the menu is dedicated to tartines, of which the champagne – sautéed pear with melted Langres cheese – was our favourite.

Head down to either the Covent Garden or Brixton outpost to taste a selection of different grower champagnes alongside cheese pairings.

A charcuterie selection is around £8, baked camembert £6.5, and tartines £7.

Champagne + Fromage By Parveen Downer Fermented, sparkling grape juice and well-aged milk… …doesn’t sound as nice as Champagne and Fromage.

You can have any of their over 50 French cheeses any which way you please: sliced, baked, in a tartine, on a wooden board, with a fox, or in a box (well, not one of those…).

For ‘la fin parfait’ you can choose from champagne sorbet, French baked goods to the tune of chocolate fondant, apple tartlette, or champagne and raspberry tiramisu.

They have regular Champagne cheese tasting evenings in their Covent Garden branch, and as the semi-metaphorical cherry on top?

NOTE: Champagne + Fromage is open seven days a week.

If French be the language of love, then Champagne and fromage is almost certainly its food.

Which is why there’s exciting news: the two are making the perfect pairing at Champagne + Fromage, a sexy shop-cum-bistro selling the best of both in Covent Garden.

The shop itself, secreted away on Wellington Street, is Gallic at its most gorgeous: displays of Champagne, cheese and charcuterie make for quite the chic centrepiece, whilst mismatched furniture and reclaimed materials — including bright red chairs sourced from Parisian bistros and old wine crates from drunken days gone by — add a stamp of authentic French flair.

A bistro and deli in Covent Garden selling a variety of Gallic food and drink to eat in or take away.

Thirty hard and soft French cheeses are offered as well as around 16 varieties of 'grower' Champagne – AKA bubby from small labels.

In fact, most of what C+F's stock is sourced from small, independent companies across the Channel and staff pride themselves on being knowlegeable and passionate about what they sell.
