Thai food is everywhere these days.

The food there is exactly how Thai food should be: hot and sharp, rich and complex.

Its hot-sour flavour cleansed the palate, and prepared us for the next course of spiced fish and beef Penang curry.

The beef curry was nutty and creamy, spiked with the fresh aniseed tang of Thai holy basil, hot enough to excite the palate without making it inedible.

This is a wonderful place to try real Thai food and in a real Thai atmosphere.

Our complimentary garlic flatbread – lightly charred with fine slices of fresh garlic sprinkled on top – went with it perfectly.

And pasta too - with Sicilian classics such as casarecce alla norma (aubergines, fresh tomato, basil and grated ricotta) and unusual offerings like strascinati al ragu’ bianco di pesce e broccoli (homemade pasta with white fish ragu’ and broccoli).

This Trafalgar Square branch is one of three Bianco43 restaurants in London – the others are in Blackheath and Greenwich.

That focus includes pizzas made with a blend of flours exclusive to the restaurant, sourced from a family-run mill in Italy.

Pizzas include margheritas, capricciosas, marinaras, diavolas and calzones, as well as three signature pizzas, including a frutti di mare with king prawns, calamari, mussels and baby octopus.

Outside of the pizzas, expect gnocchi alla sorrentina, ravioli with spinach and ricotta in a butter and sage sauce, bistecca di manzo and filetto di branzino – sea bass fillet served with fresh cherry tomatoes and baked potatoes.
