Situated down in the Wintergarden, The Battersea Pie Station serves a great selection of Pies (stating the bloody obvious), pasties, sides and soups (we didn’t see these, but then again we weren’t looking).
Here’s a brief rundown of how the Battersea Pie Station got going… It was founded by James Stephenson back in 2007 with a simple goal in mind – to make and serve the best pie & mash there is.
The boys opted for the The Winstone (Steak & Kidney) and the Steak & Guinness pies served with mash and gravy.
I had my pie with the mash and the traditional liquor (the first time I’ve tried it) – a thin parsley sauce which tastes much better than it looks.

Hidden in the depths of Camden’s Stables Market is Battersea Pie.
A pie and mash stall that we first discovered in our nearby Bluewater.
Now Camden’s not really a food destination, the market appears to be overrun with some rather mediocre looking eateries.
However there is some fab pie and mash to be had, and at great prices too.
We perched on one of the many seating areas and tucked in to our pies.

Battersea Pie Station, under the arches of the lower ground floor of Covent Garden's Market Building, serves up proper British grub.
Simply look for The Pie Shop sign and pick your pie which is served with silky smooth mashed potatoes and lashings of rich gravy.
The menu at Battersea Pie Station includes classics like steak and Guinness and chicken and mushroom, plus more creative, squash and goat’s cheese.
Battersea Pie Station started off selling its wares at festivals, including Glastonbury, before setting up shop in Covent Garden back in 2010.

With bargain prices and proper British food, this pie and mash house is something of an anomaly among the tourist traps of Covent Garden Market.
It’s housed in one of the refurbished subterranean arches, keeping the traditional exterior and flagstone floor, but the fixtures and fittings are stylish and modern: bright white tiles, polished marble tables and a shiny counter.
Besides the traditional fillings such as steak and mushroom with stout, minced beef and onion, or chicken and mushroom are less expected versions such as butternut squash and goat’s cheese or salmon, cod and prawns.
A chicken and mushroom costs a mere fiver and creamy, well-whipped mash an extra £2.75.
Even for a counter-service place this little caff is terrific value – and is the exception to the rule that central Covent Garden is best avoided by the bargain hunter.
