Best for: budget flights to Mexico by way of east London’s Spitalfields.

So if El Camion Mexican restaurant in Soho got me as close to Mexico as, say, the Bahamas, and if Wahaca’s Mexican street food and colourful decor got me as close to Mexico as Jamaica, then the new Lupita Mexican restaurant in east London has me dipping my toes in the Gulf of Mexico from the Parque Nacional Peninsula de Guanahacabibes in west Cuba, such is its Mexican authenticity.

Just remarkably affordable - considering the portion sizes and fresh quality - traditional Mexican food from the time of the Mayans.

This is meant to be fun, so if you’re confused by the menu, try something you’ve never had before, such as the earthy huitlacoche Mexican truffle quesadilla, or the quesa fundido, which is probably the world’s biggest tortilla chip (made of cheese).

The chef is Mexican, the ingredients are Mexican, 45% of the customers are Mexican, so, Mexico, thanks all the same, but I might have myself an edifying sojourn in Mexico City from the comfort of my own London-based casa (Lupita), if you don’t mind.

Kin Kao Thai Restaurant - London

Famous for its many curry houses, Brick Lane is a very popular destination for a taste of the East.

But amongst the parade of Indian restaurants, you can find the odd place that breaks away from the lane's reputation one of which is Thai restaurant Kinkao.Kinkao prides itself on its traditional Thai food using only fresh ingredients, herbs and spices.

The interior is beautifully decorated, with striking wooden carved furniture, creating an authentic Thai atmosphere to compliment the appetising aromas wafting from the kitchen. The menu offers a range of tasty-sounding dishes, from soups to curries, noodles and stir-fries, but you are unlikely to be disappointed whatever you decide to go for.

At a reasonable price of 8.95, it is well worth the money, although this doesn't include the side dish of rice which you have to order separately.Between myself and my six friends, we sampled all kinds of curries, soups, noodles, grilled and wok dishes, and each one of us left feeling more than satisfied and extremely delighted with our meals. This was undoubtedly the best Thai food I have had in a long while and highly recommend it.

So next time you fancy dinner on Brick Lane, why not make a change from the curry houses and try some exquisite traditional Thai food at Kinkao!
