Not many non-Londoners would know there is a sister branch, called “Duck and Waffle Local”, located in the heart of St James, Central London.

Whilst the original Duck and Waffle has a solid following being a favourite for city workers to get a midnight snack, the Local version is as much for tourists as it is for Londoners.

It is probably the food that will draw you to visiting Duck and Waffle Local.

As I said, the food is where Duck and Waffle Local really came into its own.

If Duck and Waffle Local is the future of fast food in London, bring it on!

London Reviews: A Vegetarian Visits Duck & Waffle Local – The ...

I’ve made no secret of my healthy obsession with waffles (not least given their uncanny resemblance to hashtags… oh #millennials), but the enthusiasm with which this vegetarian recently waddled over to Duck & Waffle Local might still be a bit baffling… That is unless you’ve previously experienced Chef Dan Doherty’s transfixing execution of veggie dishes, as I did rather memorably at Taste of London a couple of years ago.

Add to that, a new and intriguing “chef curated, fast casual” concept spinning off from the iconic original, Duck & Waffle, and in one fowl swoop my dear friend Colleen and I had unanimously agreed on the venue for an overdue dinner-date… Situated within the burgeoning St James Market development, the first thing that struck us about this new restaurant is that it strives for accessibility across the board – from the competitively-priced menu to the location and fast food-esque focus, with a welcome lack of waiting lists or long queues so characteristic of on-trend eateries today!

The signature Duck & Waffle has migrated over from the original restaurant, and was a quacking temptation for C who’s previously tried and loved this cult favourite dish.

On this occasion, she ultimately opted for something new… *the* duck burger.

The stuff of soul food, it was the kind of comfortingly-warm dish I can foresee myself craving and returning for… … Along with the sweet waffle cones, of course.

Finally, you can get your fix of Duck and Waffle down at your local.

Because the second outpost of the highly-acclaimed (and highly-positioned on the top of the Heron Tower) restaurant has opened in the new St James’s Market restaurant development, under the moniker of Duck and Waffle Local.

Even drinks are given the speed treatment, with bespoke cocktails pre-bottled and on tap (a mojito, a white basil spritz, a ‘Duck and Stormy’, etc.) accompanied by local brews.

NOTE: Duck and Waffle Local is now open 8am-1am daily.

Taking aim for the casual restaurant scene, Duck and Waffle Local is the flip reverse.

Aiming to separate itself from its sky-high sibling, Duck and Waffle Local has successfully dipped its toes into the causal restaurant scene with its affordable food and drink offering.

Having never experienced the glory of Duck and Waffle’s signature dish £14, ordering it was an absolute no-brainer.

Although beer and wine can be purchased at Duck and Waffle Local, we plunged towards the cocktail menu curated by Rich Woods - Duck and Waffle’s main man for spirit and cocktail development.

Just like my challenge to avoid words like ‘nest’ and ‘ruffle my feathers’ to keep this review pun-free, Duck and Waffle have their own hurdles to jump in the casual dining scene.

So what do we need to know about Duck and Waffle local?

There's also a cracking looking breakfast menu with dishes like grilled cheese with duck jam and fried duck egg, Colombian eggs and, of course, the signature dish Duck & Waffle which is available all day.

It's not often someone tries something really new in London, so we applaud the folk at Duck and Waffle for having a go.

The best way to use Duck and Waffle local would be to dive in for a drink and a bite on various occasions and work your way through the menu that way.

Hot Dinners were invited to Duck & Waffle Local, prices were correct at the time of writing.

Britain consumes more chocolate than any other country Most people love chocolate but it turns out no one does more than the Brits – with the average Brit found to have consumed 8.4 kg of chocolate in 2017, according to new data.

Chocolate consumption around the world is on the rise, according to Mintel Global New Products Database (GNPD), which found that in the past year alone, Easter chocolate production has risen by 23 per cent 'Easter eggs should be banned for children under four' Dr Becky Spelman, chief psychologist at Harley Street’s Private Therapy Clinic, is calling for Easter eggs to be banned for consumption for children under the age of four, claiming that giving them the opportunity to binge on chocolate so young will give them an unhealthy relationship with food later on.

"Once a child starts overeating behaviour at a young age it’s very hard to turn things around for them in terms of food and their eating habits moving forward, leading to obesity from at very young age," she added According to Tesco, pineapple has overtaken avocado as the UK’s fastest-selling fruit, with sales increasing by 15 per cent in 2017.

The original Duck & Waffle, which is at the top of a skyscraper, is famous for flashy views and flashy prices.

With this more casual offshoot, they’re keeping the duck-centric menu but bringing things down to earth.

At the bottom of a considerably shorter building on Haymarket, the menu is broadly half the price, and the most glamorous thing you can see through the window is the entrance to Tiger Tiger.

Two dishes got the thumbs up: bacon-wrapped dates and a duck burger that came topped with crispy noodles.

On the negative side, seared into my memory were a rubbery pork bao and a completely bland Vietnamese noodle salad.
