Seafood menu, with dishes containing alcohol clearly marked.

A fully licensed fishmonger and seafood bar has shut up shop and moved to a bigger location just a stone’s throw away down Islington’s Upper Street.

While Prawn on the Lawn’s new site retains its familiar shop front fish counter that continues to sell the freshest seafood, it now offers a hot food menu in its 35 cover ground floor restaurant, which also has a private dining room that can accommodate around 15.

With its menu regularly changing on account of the day’s catch that comes in from Cornwall, the place of their only other restaurant in Padstow, Prawn on the Lawn offers small plates for under a tenner that includes dishes like plaice tempura with curry sauce and crispy shallots and whole Cornish mackerel with ‘nduja and nasturtium, as well as larger sharing ones, such as, an £18 whole crab, or a £25 bowl of shellfish stew.

Other dishes from the menu include: NOTE: Although the dishes served at Prawn on the Lawn are seafood, some do contain alcohol.

These days it’s a lunchtime food destination, and there is no better value than the lahmacun, a spicy flatbread hot from the grill and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, for a little over 3 pounds ($4).

For the same price you can also get a bacon and mozzarella cheese tamale, or a breakfast egg sandwich on a brioche bun with his chipotle-spiked special sauce.

But the greatness of Vanessa’s, which has outposts in the East Village and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is their sesame pancake-styled sandwiches, filled with ingredients like kimchee, ham and egg, and roasted pork.

Thick yellow noodles, pork belly slices, chunks of fried fish, and a well-seasoned hard-boiled egg are doused in rich, flavorful gravy and finished with a garnish of cilantro and sliced red chiles.

A freshly fried pork cutlet is simmered with an egg and sweet soy sauce just long enough before it’s heaped atop a bowl of rice—the perfect meal, for just 500 yen ($4.64) at any of Katsuya’s 345 restaurants around Japan.

The Iskele | Restaurants in Old Street, London

Whitecross Street has become a destination for street food on Thurday and Friday lunchtimes, with stalls selling hog roast sandwiches, burritos, falafel wraps, jerk chicken and more besides.

But in wintry weather, the indoor seating of the market street’s cafés beckon.
