The Dovetail Bar in Clerkenwell, London Pub Review and Details
food location value
Like its sister pub, the Dove in Broadway Market, Hackney, the Dovetail Bar specialises in things Belgian - strong beer beer, moules frites etc, plus more esoteric Continental stuff such as Genevers and the like.
While typical English pub fare (burgers and lagers) is available, the more curious pub explorer will revel in the huge range of Belgian beers and found on the pumps and in the menu - there will almost certainly be something for everyone.
With an excellent food menu, the Dovetail does a pretty good impression of being Antwerp rather than London and is a refreshing change from the identikit bars and gastropubs in the area.
The food is pretty good and priced for the area - i.e. not cheap, but not too expensive either and it's good quality.
The Dovetail is well worth seeking out if you want something different and a little stronger {Pavel Kwak anyone?)
Belgian Beer Tasting at the Dovetail | Truly
drinks food
Intimate, warm and friendly, The Dovetail is tucked away in quiet Jerusalem Passage, close to the historic City of London and in the heart of Clerkenwell.
With over 100 Belgian beers to choose from, it serves as London’s go-to pub for the best of Belgian beer.
The food is of worthy mention too.
Your tasting is hosted in a relaxed atmosphere where you are encouraged to engage with an experienced beer sommelier as he guides you through a selection of Belgium’s best beers, some of which is paired with certain foods to enhance the taste.
It’s a fantastic way to enjoy an evening with fellow beer lovers in a fun and informative way.

“I have found myself often frequenting this very pleasant little authentic Belgian Bar.
My father and i have chosen the dovetail to spend the evening catching up and drinking leffe blonde with merriment, but as the other review states, this establishment does fill up rather quickly.
Compared to the 'Lowlander' in Covent Garden (another wonderful Belgian Bar i can often be found in) i find the dovetail very atmospheric and authentic, great value for money and the quality to be very good indeed.
“The Dovetail is a small bar in a quiet alley off Clerkenwell Green.
I went there for a quiet drink, which turned into a loud drink with the aid of beers called Lucifer and Satan, which turned into a magnificent and relatively inexpensive meal, which turned into an entire evening of merriment as my companion and I tore through the menu of 200 different Belgian beers.
Ibérica Farringdon, London EC1 – restaurant review | Marina O ...
food staff ambience drinks
Something happens between my second and third visits to the new Ibérica in Farringdon – yes, I like it that much – that causes me to question my own particular brand of food snobbery.
It's every bit as fun; the staff as charming (one even chases me as I leave, saying, "Nice to see you back, madam"; crikey); the food, a mix of traditional tapas (patatas bravas) and dishes zhuzhed by Manzana's creativity (corn torto fritter with pungent Cabrales cheese and scrambled egg), as fine as before.
The Farringdon version, a Fen bird stewed into what seems to be toughness but is just substance, served with saffron-scented savoury rice and roast piquillo peppers, may not be as life-affirming as its Asturian cousin, but it's a wonderfully earthy, comforting plate of food.
If they keep up the standards, if they continue to lavish giant amounts of loot into creating stunning environments in which to neck fine ham and porróns of godello (those carafe-with-spouts things your parents used to bring back from Spanish holidays), I hope Ibérica spreads through the UK like ripe Cabrales.

food drinks
The Dovetail is a modern European restaurant with a heavy influence from Belgium in both its food and its drink offerings.
There are Belgian classics such as mussels, carbonnade (beef stew with the beef marinated in beer), and Antwerp fish stew.
The list of 100 Belgian beers covers the full glorious range of the country's diverse styles, and there are Belgian beer tastings in which different styles are matched with food.
