Bearing the title of a treasured Malaysian folk song, ‘Rasa Sayang’ literally translates to ‘loving feeling’.

The backbone of Rasa Sayang’s menu is made up of colourful, traditional dishes, including excellent Nasi Lemak, consisting of coconut rice served with tender curried chicken, and an exquisite Singapore Chilli Crab – a rich and ever-so-satisfying dish that definitely cannot to be missed.

These delicate, crispy shells filled with chicken, dried shrimp and fresh turnip are unique to Rasa Sayang and can be found nowhere else in Chinatown.

Beyond outstanding food, Rasa Sayang is also looking to provide its patrons with an all-round inspiring experience.

While this is a place with roots firmly tethered in tradition, Rasa Sayang is continuously evolving in new and exciting ways, making each visit distinctly special.

I have recently discovered that the Singaporean untold national dish is served here in London : time for a review of the Singapore Chilli Crab at Rasa Sayang.

Most of you probably know that it is hard to find a good Malaysian / singaporean restaurant in London and even more difficult to find a restaurant which serves Singapore Chilli crab.

The full Menu is available here One of the good point about Rasa Sayang is that their is a lot of “Locals” customers (Meaning Asian and Malaysians) eating there; Probably missing the taste of home cuisine, which is always a good sign in a foreign restaurant.

The chilli crab is not known for being a cheap meal at all in Singapore; However the Singapore Chilli Crab at Rasa Sayang is priced at £15.90 which is really good value for money.

Despite the name, the chilli crab at Rasa Sayang is not particularly hot (i have a to admit i have a pretty good tolerance to hot food so my review might be biased).

There are surprisingly few Malaysian restaurants in London, and Rasa Sayang (which roughly means “dear taste”) therefore has some expectations to live up to.

My favourite dish from this cuisine is beef rendang (£6.80), slow cooked beef with a dry, spicy curry.

Better was roti bread with a coconut-based curry sauce, the bread more like an Indian paratha, and very enjoyable, with a pleasing texture and buttery taste (13/20).

“Garden selection in hot curry” (£6) was a coconut-based curry that was, for me, rather thin, using perhaps too much coconut milk, the vegetables rather lost in the dish (11/20).

The busy dining room suggests that they are doing something right, but the Malaysian restaurant of my dreams has yet to open in London.
