Except in a Nando’s.
In its newly renovated Soho branch, Nando’s has built a recording studio, which will be visible to diners as they tuck into some crappy chicken, covering it and themselves with the hottest sauce they can find in order to burn away the nagging doubt that they’ve made a terrible mistake.
Watching some musicians at work will probably help with that as well, while – from inside the studio – this whole venture might inspire some interesting music.
The project is an expansion of the Nando’s Music Exchange mentoring project, which is apparently a thing.
“We’re really excited to open our first music space, both for our growing network of artists but also for our fans looking for a unique experience in restaurant”, says a Nando’s spokesperson.

The studio has been opened at Nando’s in Frith Street, Soho, and will give successful applicants the chance to record their own music with the help of an in-house studio engineer and pioneering equipment including a Neumann U87 microphone.

That’s right, Nando’s has opened up a free-to-use music studio at its Frith Street branch in Soho.
Anyone who uses the studio will be in clear view of restaurant diners, but that’s exactly the sort of pressure and attention you’re going to have to deal with if you become an all star producer, artist or DJ.
This hot new opening coincides with the fourth anniversary of Nando’s Music Exchange – a programme inspiring the exchange of global music influences, by way of workshops, mentoring and events, which has seen the likes of Stormzy and Ella Eyre mentoring young artists.
The studio will be open 5 days a week and you can apply for a spot here.
There’ll also be a whole host of different expert and artist-led workshops held at the studio throughout the year.

Cape Town-based Zemba Luzamba documents the lives of immigrant communities while Norman O’Flynn, often working with silk embroidery and glass beads, uses his art to express ‘personal pleasures and struggles.’
And to compliment your enjoyment of the art, there will also be a limited Nando’s menu available for £5.
