Grand Imperial is part of a Malaysian restaurant group (run by entrepreneur Rand Cheung), which opened their first restaurant in the Kuala Lumpur shopping mall Bangsar in December 2008.
This was perfectly pleasant, though I have been ruined for this dish by eating the perfect version at Made in China in Beijing.
I can see Grand Imperial appealing to those who want to eat Cantonese food in a smart setting, say for a business lunch, but those just interested in decent value good food will probably head for somewhere like Royal China (better and cheaper), and those wanting the very best food will stick to Hakkasan.
Grand Imperial has a nice dining room and pleasant food, but for only a little more you could dine at, say, Yauatcha, and eat Michelin starred Chinese food.
Hence it will be interesting to see whether Grand Imperial really carves out a successful niche in the London dining scene.

The Grand Imperial, Guoman Grosvenor Hotel - London Restaurant ...
value food menu location
Grandly housed in the hotel adjacent to Victoria Station, this Cantonese dining room offers airy surroundings and good-value dim sum (and lunch) menus, making it an ideal daytime rendezvous; by night, it looks set to appeal particularly to the business market.
On the other side of central London, and with less fanfare, Guoman hotels are busy updating the hotel adjacent to Victoria Station.
Sadly, our visit did not allow an extensive sampling of the menu, but one thing is clear: dim sum are very good.
At lunchtime they do a number of good 'deals' too - either just dim sum, or dim sum as part of a somewhat longer menu.
In the evening, we suspect that it's for the business market that this large and undoubtedly well-spaced room is of most interest.

ES Food Newsletter The Imperial Arms used to be a bit rowdy — posh rowdy, with back-slapping and exaggerated laughing and really tall blokes in white chinos loudly regaling pretty blonde girls about how much their bar tab came to last night.
Gastropub this may be but champagne flutes, not pints, sit on every table, so we order the Sussex sparkling wine (Cuvée Cavendish) to keep up appearances.
Restaurants beloved of ladies who lunch can, in my limited experience, be snooty and quiet, as if everyone is whispering about everyone else’s terrible clothes and table manners.
Credit to The Imperial for being the opposite — the friendliest of its smiley staff is our husky Spanish waitress, who says: “The fans of Chelsea have come in and say: ‘What’s this cauliflower tart?
