Purezza Review - Brighton Source

THE PLACE Despite the rise of vegan eating, Purezza opened late last year as the only pizza restaurant in the UK dedicated to dairy and meat alternatives.

I suppose they don’t imagine anyone wanders into a vegan pizza restaurant by chance, but we had to ask about the cheeses (mainly soya based) and if the rumour about cauliflower bases was true (it’s not).

The Giardino was a hummus base with olives, artichokes, sunflower seeds, cherry tomatoes and herbs.

If you’re vegan or dairy intolerant we can imagine this would become a mecca, but if you’re not it’s difficult to see how you’d choose this over a naughty, dairy rich, gluten heavy pizza treat.

No one yet is matching Purezza’s foresight to produce vegan pizza full stop, never mind at this level.

The Vegan Food UK Team were fortunate enough to recently be invited down to Purezza, in Brighton, to try out their new raw vegan menu, and what a treat it was.

Far from a boring Italian restaurant, Purezza is modern, trendy and on the front-line for new and experimental vegan dishes.

Courgetti pasta (spiralised courgettes for the late person) has been a trend for a few months now, but Purezza have really thought about the sauce and texture so that it stands out as a potential favourite for regulars who want a healthy meal, and we really enjoyed it Purezza’s raw lasagna has enough prowess to be a signature dish for the restaurant.

Purezza really have set the bar with this dish and means that all the raw foodies out there can sit down and enjoy pizza with their friends.

There wasn’t one thing on Purezza’s new raw menu that we didn’t enjoy.

An evening at the all-vegan pizza restaurant, Purezza, in Brighton.

Veg crisps, coconut cheesey dough balls, courgetti and oh yeah, only a chocolate calzone!

The tartness of the sundried tomatoes helped cut through the heaviness of the whole thing as it came wrapped in folded pizza dough for the 'bun' add to that the grainy burger as well as more veg chips on the side,  very carby - you'll be FTB in an instant.

You cut it open with the pizza cutter and molten chocolate (made from what tasted like coconut cream, cacao and pistachios) oozes out.

If I wasn't reviewing and attempting to try as many things as possible to report to you lovely lot I would have just had one of the raw dishes and possibly a starter so please be happy knowing I stuffed my gut and waddled home so you could know the delights of cheesy coconut bites and chocolate calzone!

…a lovely sunny day at work followed by a delicious meal at Kemptown’s plant-based restaurant, Purezza!

There’s a vast array of plant-based cheeses such as raw cashew cheese, creamy coconut cheese and a ricotta style cheese, so don’t think just because it’s vegan you’ll be missing that cheesiness you can’t get enough.

The owners of Purezza are Italian so when it comes to pizza dough they’ve got it down to a tee.

After chatting to Ross about the cheeses that are on offer at Purezza he recommended we try their ‘cheese’ board to start.

My gluten free fettuccine was made from raw butternut squash that had been cut into large strip to emulate the style of pasta, with a creamy seafood sauce finished with seaweed.
