This was my Mum’s first ever Club Mexicana!

Club Mexicana make the most incredible, mouth watering VFC (Vegan Fried Chikn).

The Wings are topped with sour cream and hot sauce and served with a pot of Avocado Salsa Verde which I would like to fill a bathtub up with, jump in and drink my way out of.

The Baja Tofish Taco (right) is an absolute must for any trip to Club Mexicana.

I’m so happy that the Carne Asada Taco (left) has made it to Dinerama having started life as an exclusive to Club Mexicana’s Dalston branch at Pamela.

In what has been deemed “The Best thing to happen to East London since forever”, Club Mexicana has taken over the kitchen at Pamela in Haggerston.

Club Mexicana’s famous Tofish (almost entirely indistinguishable from actual fish but not in a gross way), topped with pickled red cabbage, avocado salsa verde and chipotle chilli oil served on a completely homemade taco.

Tender, juicy flakes of Seitan with Arbol Chilli Salsa, Refried Pinto Beans, Pink Onions, Radish and Coriander.

The Club Mexicana menu is ever expanding & evolving and I have noticed at least 3 new dishes since I visited!

Go visit Club Mexicana at Pamela (tell them I sent you, but be cool, yeah?)

My second trip to Pamela on Kingsland Road promised vegan Mexican food in the confines of this trendy-but-friendly bar, courtesy of new pop-up Club Mexicana.

A quick note on sauce: a trend I’ve noticed in pop-ups around these parts recently is the sourcing of condiments with a truly global purview – in this case, Valentina Salsa Picante Black Label hot sauce, made with Pequin pepper.

The Mexican street corn was an exciting first arrival to the table, and delivered rich, creamy cheesiness.

It’s clear from the taste that this is predominantly from the addition of nutritional yeast (a common substitute for cheese in vegan cooking which looks, bluntly, like fish food flakes) but along with the vegan cream and spicy sauce slathered on, it adds up to something cheesier than the sum of its parts.

By the time our second and final taco arrives, our table is a bit of a free-for-all: a bit of potato here, a drop of sauce there… This taco, or to be more accurate the jackfruit tinga masa pancake, perhaps crosses the line to being too unusually flavoured in its quest for beefiness.

ES Food Newsletter Club Mexicana, the street food specialists who’ve made their name serving vegan Mexican dishes across London, have found a permanent home in Haggerston.

Their supper club will start an open-ended residency at Pamela on the Kingsland Road from next Tuesday, January 17.

“2017 is going to be massive for vegan food, and we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Pamela, who’ve proven themselves to be trailblazers to champion a 100% vegan menu.”

Mexplosion: London’s hot new taco joints The new residency is a marked change for Pamela, who previously hosted Louisiana-style street food specialist Decatur.

By contrast, the all-vegan Club Mexicana specialise dishes such as a bbq pulled jackfruit taco, jalapeno poppers stuffed stuffed with chipotle cashew ‘cheese’, and a masa pancake with pumpkin seed puree and jackfruit tinga known as Sikil Pak Hurache.
