Review: Salt Quay and Canada Water Cafe, London SE16 - Dear ...

In the two years since I’ve left, Canada Water has really blossomed – new-builds are complete, and shops and amenities are moving in to turn the place into a proper neighbourhood.
While Canada Water Cafe is completely new to me, the Salt Quay – formerly the Old Salt Quay – is one of the most evident reminders of what Rotherhithe used to be, namely part of the Docklands – a huge network of canals, pools and warehouses that supplied London with the world.
Canada Water Cafe is an interesting contrast to the Salt Quay, a cafe as new as the pub was old, and decorated cozily, mostly with blonde wood and cushions.
Thing is, Canada Water remains mainly a place to go home to rather than eat out – but sometimes it’s precisely this that drives demand for better food closer to home.
That’s what happened to Shoreditch, and as the moneyed flood into Canada Water, food places may well follow them all the way home.

The Lodge Space is a health club, cafe, kitchen, yoga studio and fitness centre in Canada Water just opened as of September 2017.
Activities include Yoga, Pilates and a range of Fitness classes including High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
Whilst ensuring that the food is first of all great the chef at The Lodge Space is also designing dishes that are mostly gluten free and vegetarian or vegan.
I have sampled a Pilates class and a “Done in 21” High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) style class.
Sabina, a Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor and Certified Boxing instructor delivers several other classes at The Lodge Space including a 10 Rounds boxing exercise class I am keen to join.

But I'd heard good things about Canada Water Cafe, a neighbourhood eatery serving Union coffee and an Italian-influenced all-day menu, and stopped by for some coffee and cake on Saturday.
The geography of Canada Water and Surrey Quays can be a little confusing, but the cafe is located on Surrey Quays Road, a couple of minutes north-east of Canada Water Tube station and the Canada Water library with its unique architectural design.
I had already eaten lunch and I figured that on such a sunny day, it would be pretty busy at lunchtime, so I wandered over to Decathlon to pick up a few bits of kit before arriving at Canada Water Cafe just after 2:00 pm.
Naturally, I'll be going back both to try a piccolo and to sample the cocktails and pizza menu (yes, Canada Water Cafe has a lot going on!)

Canada Water Café opened in the summer of 2014 and serves a short, mainly Italian menu and drinks both hot and cold.
The menu focuses on pasta and especially pizza, with special pies of the week alongside the regular selection.
La Cafona, for example, features baked potato, rosemary, mozzarella, smoked cheese and Italian sausage - made with no tomato sauce.
They also have a breakfast menu, and daily specials at both lunch and dinner.
Canada Water Café places heavy emphasis on the quality of its coffee, using beans from some of the best roasters in London, and offers occasional 'latte art' classes for customers.
