ambience

Village East Address 171-173 Bermondsey Website Designed within two strikingly different adjoining buildings - a listed warehouse and a contrasting glass apartment block, Village East combines both cosy booth seating, counter dining, a tucked away dining room and a spacious cocktail lounge.

The cosy booths gain character from vintage-feel lampshades and urban mesh-style dividing panes.

Village East Restaurant | Bermondsey Street One of the original restaurants to lead Bermondsey Street down the path of becoming – as it now is – one of London’s most exciting foodie destinations, is the NYC-styled Village East.

In the morning, pop in for village granola, buttermilk pancakes or eggs on toast.

The lunch menu (which doubles up for brunch at the weekend) is comprised of hearty, honest dishes combined with interesting flavours like baked skate wing, caramelised pork belly with seared scallops, chateaubriand (to share) or straightforward fish and chips.

With a late weekend license and contemporary upbeat music, Village East’s as much the place to go for a night out as it is to go and recover the next morning….

Village East on Bermondsey Street, a stones throw from London Bridge, is a chic restaurant and bar modelled on the slick and modern establishments you find in its namesake in Manhattan.

Located in a listed warehouse and decked out with large oak tables, inviting lounging chairs and slick dark wooden floors, this London bar is perfect for impressing a date or conducting an important business meeting as style is firmly on both the food and drinks menu.

With a European menu boasting Confit Turkey Leg and Cheeseburger as well as Steamed Mussels and Fish n Chips, you won't leave Village East hungry.

Village East is a diverse space and has a number of options for events and private parties.

The Little Room seats 16 together and located downstairs, away from the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant, has its own private entrance.

Village East sits in the kind of narrow lane in Bermondsey, south London, where people used to go for a good mugging in the days before the hip design consultancies moved in and ruined all the fun.

The restaurant space itself could be called modern eclectic, but in a good way.

The food, as we know, is modern eclectic, which this year means unexpected outbreaks of wasabi and yuzu, as in a starter of ceviche of sea scallops with pickled cauliflower and yuzu juice.

Intriguingly, it looked exactly like the sort of dish Marco Pierre White would have served in his heyday.

A couple of the dishes were really very nice, and the room looks good.
