The Savannah Bar & Restaur : Food Noise-Review

It’s Certainly not Plain at The Savannah Bar & Restaurant, Euston At work, I am known as 'the foodie'- if anyone wants a restaurant or bar recommendation then they come to me, and usually I can reel off a list of exciting new places to try.

Only a few steps from Euston station lies The Savannah Bar & Restaurant, within the Wesley Hotel.

I’m not normally keen on ‘hotel restaurants’, but with its own separate entrance, I didn’t actually realise that the restaurant was in a hotel at first!

The décor is also inspired by nature and sustainability, with some stunning features such as The Bird of Prey, made of recycled shopping trolleys and standing majestically in the restaurant.

In London’s fast growing restaurant scene, Savannah is a quirky new eatery that is well worth a try – and the ethical element, makes you feel good about eating there too!

The Savannah - London's Sustainable Restaurant

The Savannah is located within the Wesley Hotel (see later).

The décor tells a story inspired by nature and sustainability, with ‘time’ as the theme.

The Bird of Prey has been hand-crafted by ethical artist Ptolemy Erlington, well-known for transforming scrap metal in works of art, mainly animal forms.

The ‘bird’ is made of recycled shopping trolleys, is a dynamic art piece and stands majestic in the main restaurant.

The Savannah also cultivates emerging creativity and the work of upcoming animators, film makers and artists will be projected on the walls.

The Savannah Bar & Restaurant, London, Euston. Book now!

Dining with a conscience has never been as emphasised as it is these days, and while it can be a minefield if you want to head out and eat ethically, there’s a stalwart handful of London restaurants flying the flag for eco-friendly gastronomy.

The Savannah is one such restaurant, and we’re excited about it because not only does it take a sustainable, organic and biodynamic approach to food and drink, but the wizards in this kitchen (under head chef Alin Lucian Atanasiu), housed at The Wesley Hotel down Euston Street, have nimbly fused classic European cuisine with the exotic flavours of Africa and Asia.

The result is a menu packed with exciting dishes like the African-spiced pork belly, sirloin steak given an Asian twist, a sophisticated list of wines and artisanal beers – and membership with the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

food

An ethical and eco-friendly restaurant in The Wesley Hotel.

It claims to be London’s first sustainable hotel, and this ethos is carried through to its restaurant.

A starter of crispy tempura prawns rested on a banana leaf with a delicately spiced tomato sauce by its side, while the rack of lamb was well cooked and paired with crispy bacon and creamy polenta.

Portions are a bit on the measly side, which is only emphasised by vast white plates.

So while the ethically sourced food might not cost the earth (in more ways than one), you might still leave The Savannah feeling a bit short-changed.
