SoulFood

Soul Food | Caribbean Street Food

Soul Food is cuisine that is steeped in heritage and tradition, with each locale having its own story and own flavours.

From farming the land to rearing livestock, through to the intense flavours of fresh coconut picked off a tree and grated, these are the recipes and techniques passed down from generation to generation: stews infused with spices and flavours ‘stolen’ from conquerors all over the world, charcoal stoves with famous jerk spices warming below a corrugated iron cover, aromatic wood burning ovens and bubbling, simple coal pots that sat outside every family home.

Soul Food does just this – letting the food do the talking and watching the days pass by whilst delicious succulent meats are sizzling underground or on hot stones, and making rice and peas with the special, magic ingredient of the sun.

Some will have never tasted such sweet tasting food; food that is so simple but so beautiful.

Intoxicating and irresistible, it’s time to introduce Soul Food.

The Wet Fish Cafe. Soulfood [review] | London Eater

Review analysis
food

“Fell in love with the idea of transforming a rundown site into a London cafe with soul and character” – Andre, A Wet Fish Tale Everything seems more vibrant in Spring.

Poached eggs with hollandaise sauce, a sort of fried potato mash, wild boar sausage, crispy bacon and some greens on the side.

I am a fan of poached eggs and was impressed by the silky mild hollandaise sauce, which finely balanced the tangy against the buttery – it was good, very good indeed.

Food is rather good – rustic and uncomplicated – sometimes when all we are after is a good cuppa (and it’s a pretty good cuppa) and a comfy place for reading, or perhaps for a first date (this wasn’t a first date) then I suspect that The Wet Fish Cafe is one of the few places in town, which is just perfect for when we are yearning for simple pleasures.

London's Best Food And Drink Openings In November | Londonist

Their new bar, attached to the restaurant, promises to be just as experimental — the cocktail menu features the Tom Kha Khai, with its blend of coriander, kaffir lime, coconut and chilli, garnished with flying fish roe, and the Yellow Curry, with saffron, ginger, lemongrass, cumin and basil.

The soba come with ceremony here — handmade every day in the restaurant, on show to diners, and forming the basis of a number of hot and cold dishes on the menu.

November's offering up some good causes, with the Raise Your Hands wrap party on 22 November at the Union Club on Greek Street — tickets are £10 for non-members and include food and a chance to hear about RYH's charity sector work.

We reckon these new pop-ups look worth wrapping up for: Sliders, London's only rooftop curling club — bringing icy competition and boozy hot chocolate to Roof East.

The Woody Bear winter pop-up — serving up hot cocktails, raclette and, for the brave, egg nog, on their Oxford Street rooftop.
