KATZENJAMMERS - London's Coolest Bierkeller

Our original upstairs Bierkeller is where the Katzenjammers legend began 6 years ago.

A beautiful vaulted space with a specially commissioned standing exhibition by award winning photographer John Ross.

The Bierkeller boasts a fabulous steel clad bar serving our full range of drinks as well a full Bavarian menu of starters, mains and desserts.

Table service is the order of the day so sit back, relax and let our beautiful waitresses clad in their contemporary Bavarian uniforms take care of you.

KATZPACE is a new 50-seater theatre in the heart of London Bridge, found in the basement of Bavarian Bierkeller, KATZENJAMMERS, giving the space a quirkier take on pub theatre.

At KATZPACE we are passionate about providing a platform for those who may not have the experience, funds or team to develop and showcase their work elsewhere.

Do you ever stand in a pub holding a pint and think, ‘Hey, this pint glass just doesn’t hold the amount of beer I want from a vessel.’

If you do, then you need to get your unsatisfied self down to Katzenjammers Bierkeller in Borough where you can enjoy the novelty of clutching a 2-litre tankard – or stein - filled with the German brew of your choice.

Of course, it does cost nearly double your average ‘tiny’ pint, but what price satisfaction?Located in a basement midway between London Bridge and Borough and identifiable at street level by a simple doorway, Katzenjammers brings a little Bavaria to the neighbourhood.

If you know beer halls then you know that they like to keep things simple, so expect to find formulaic rows of beer tables lined up for communal bonhomie.

Weekends heave with tourists and Londoners alike, which is a mix that probably helps fuels the fun.The choice of beers includes dark ales, wheat beers and lagers and of course, you’ll want to indulge in the odd Jaegermeister.

It’s got vaulted ceilings in the main room which houses the bar area and is laid out with bench seating like a trad German venue, also a couple of rooms for overspill.

Beer range is decent enough with a good mix of German styles plus a house Helles made by West (Hell Katz).

Beers on tap were standard German fare although the Scherlanka Urbock on guest tap was in great conditioning and very rare to get hold of in central London so a worthy addition to the Rate Beer database.

They did have a great bottled beer range in the fridge with plenty of Augustiner and other German micros.

A great German addition to London’s beer scene and very pleasing to know at least one chain can get this done correctly.

Although the vaulted basement rooms are very attractive, the big draw at this underground bar is the German beer.

There are seven on draught, plus more than a score by the bottle; among them is Paulaner Hefe-Weizbier, a wonderful wheat beer, alongside a comprehensive selection of weissbiers and dunkels, kölsch beers, dark lagers, pilsners and more.

The food is as German as the beer selection: wursts in various guises, a couple of roasts and schnitzels.

But the beers alone make it worth considering.
