Edwins serves seasonal British dishes in a modest, fourteen table dining room above the Trinity pub.

The short menu of small plates, main courses an desserts changes frequently, always has good vegetarian options and is put together using excellent, sustainably sourced ingredients.

The express lunch - two small plates, a side dish, and a glass of house wine for £15 is excellent value and perfect for those for a high-quality working lunch away from the hubbub of London Bridge.

Every night they run a pre-or post-theatre menu of two courses for £20, which also changes regularly and provides excellent value for those dinning before or after a show at one of the local theatres.

Classic cocktails are served from the well-stocked bar and expertly mixed.

The glitzy twenties decor spreads throughout the restaurant, from the floor tiles to the chandeliers.

It’s hard enough getting a reservation at this exclusive Soho restaurant at any other time of year so securing one for Valentine’s Day is bound to impress!

While Peckham has enough great pubs and street food stands to stop you from ever leaving, luxe and laid back is harder to come by.

In the evening, lights are dim with an orange hue, ceilings are low, everything is on wheels, and the transient nature of the smart canteen space (designed by Busby Webb) brings a fresh feel to dinner: watch the band or don’t, stay for another cocktail or explore the rest of Peckham Levels (find that half pipe!)

The consistencies with Frank’s are pleasing: thick wedges of flatbread with chilli oil and hummus (yes, flatbread to actually write home about) are identical to those served two floors above in the summer, and it brings a context to the restaurant that has the potential to feel a little lost in such a huge project (street food stands and bars sit just around the corner from Wildflower, so there’s a lot of competition, even in house).

In fact, the standard of food here does quite the opposite, setting Wildflower above and beyond its local counterparts.

Wildflower is entirely vegetarian and mostly vegan, and you’d hardly realise.

If walls could talk, no doubt they’d have plenty to say at this former Victorian curiosity shop in Borough.

But Edwin Brady’s ‘Hole in the Wall’ closed down moe than a century ago, and you won’t find stuffed animals, skeletons or jars of formaldehyde here today.

Instead, the most gory item on offer is rare-roasted venison, because this is the latest venture from Parched Pubs and the focus is food, not phantasmagoria.

Other than the name – a homage to Mr Brady – this airy dining room above the Trinity pub only nods to its former self with an antique candelabra here, a heavy curtain there, and retro-chic fittings.
