Tea and Tattle is one of the capital's hidden secrets - a quaint tea room serving a delicious traditional Afternoon Tea.

Situated below Arthur Probsthain Bookseller, you will enjoy your Afternoon Tea surrounded by a beautiful mix of traditional, modern English and Oriental décor, making this a truly memorable experience.

After a busy day taking in the sights of London or the British Museum you will enjoy fresh leaf tea in a pot and bone china, scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches and tasty cakes.

For people who like to do things a little more refined and who are not in a hurry, then an Afternoon Tea at Tea and Tattle is the ideal gift for your family and friends.

The delightfully-named Arthur Probsthain opened his Oriental and African bookshop in Great Russell Street exactly 110 years ago.

While the hordes pile into the local Starbucks, Tea and Tattle remains resolutely undiscovered.

Set afternoon tea is £24.50 (including home made lemonade), but it’s usually best just to look down the à la carte menu, where a tea and scone combo will cost £5.90.

Despite its being easy to walk past, Tea and Tattle is a great place to arrange to meet friends from out of town, as the directions are: opposite the British Museum.

Tea and Tattle is at 41 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3PE, Mon-Fri 9am–6.30pm, Sat 12pm–5pm.

Top 10 Bookshop Cafés in London

As the name Books for Cooks implies, this small bookstore café is dedicated to cookery, satisfying the tastes of cooks of all levels, from budding novices to confident chefs.

Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available at good prices for the parent who attends the events, while nibbles with fun names might tempt the children.

Besides the various one-time events, the shop entertains a weekly schedule for kids under 12, complete with Spanish and French sing-alongs, story times, and book groups offered at various prices that can be found on the website.

The space is small, with everything from the décor (furniture rimmed with gold) to the book collection (which the owner calls ‘just great literature’) exuding eccentricity.

After having explored the unique collection of books upstairs, complete with a small gallery for browsing, make the trip to the tearoom downstairs, where the afternoon teas are not only affordable, but also delectable.

The podcast is hosted by Miranda Mills and Sophie Butler, who have been best friends since they became pen-pals at 13.

You can hear the full details of their wonderful friendship by listening to the Introductory Podcast Episode.

Much as she loved podcasts, though, Miranda didn't want to have to talk to herself for 1/2 hour episodes!

The podcast reflects Miranda and Sophie's interest in all things cultural: their episodes together end with 'culture corner,' where they share the books, theatre experiences, TV shows, films and exhibitions they've been loving lately.

Tea and Tattle | Restaurants in Bloomsbury,

The Tea and Tattle is the downstairs affair at the Arthur Probsthain bookshop on Great Russell Street.

Located opposite the British Museum it's a handy stop for refreshment, whether a pot of leaf tea, cup of Monmouth coffee or the full Afternoon Tea for Two, which includes leaf tea in a pot served with bone china crockery, scones with clotted cream and jam, finger sandwiches and cakes.
