Inside the new Ivy Cafe in Blackheath
food ambience staff location
The buzz around the opening of The Ivy Cafe, Blackheath, has been building for some time, and finally, opening day is in sight – Wednesday 31 January 2018 While The Ivy Cafe has ventured south of the river already – to Wimbledon and Richmond – it’s a first for south east London.
But Christian Lacarte, General Manager at The Ivy Cafe Blackheath, assures me that the team is up to the challenge: ‘We know that Chapters had very high standards so, sure, we feel the pressure to maintain that level, but that’s no bad thing.
‘The aim for The Ivy Cafe, Blackheath is to add to the local area,’ he continues.
Crafted by the critically-acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, it looks every inch a member of The Ivy family – gleaming aged mirrors reflect the light pouring in from the eastern edge of the Heath, and elegant light fittings, lush greenery and bespoke artworks reflect the area’s heritage, from graphic prints depicting Blackheath Fireworks and flying kites to old drawings of roaming deer, The Ranger’s House and Morden College.
The Ivy Cafe, Blackheath opens on 31 January 2018 at 16-18 Montpelier Vale, Blackheath SE3 0TA.

food ambience
Expect a lavish menu of classic British food, a gorgeous interior and covetable terrace seating overlooking Greenwich Park.
The menu will consist of contemporary British food, served morning until evening.
They’ll be providing an afternoon tea that's likely to include truffled chicken brioche rolls, scones and raspberry teacakes - handy if you’re showing out of towners around the nearby Cutty Sark and want to keep up the charming British vibes.
Starters should include the likes of asparagus with hollandaise or smoked salmon and crab, while there’s more classic British plates over on the mains: slow roasted lamb, line caught swordfish and chicken Milanese.
There’ll be room for around 87 inside, but since the restaurant will be in the suitably lovely surroundings of Greenwich Park, the 20-cover Parisian-style terrace looks set to be the most coveted place to sit.
The Ivy Cafe Blackheath: An increasingly chain-like crowd-pleaser ...
Celeb-filled and iconic, The Ivy has been a key fixture on the London restaurant scene since 1917.
The menu isn’t shy when it comes to quantity, with everything from duck curry to lamb shoulder via fish and chips present and correct.
The Ivy’s famous shepherd’s pie is present and correct - and a wise choice - while a brioche-crumbed chicken Milanese, topped with a fried egg and black truffle, sums up the overall experience rather well: a fine-tuned crowd-pleaser, with a just a few shavings of something to make us all feel a little special.
The restaurants serve breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and everything in between, with a competent cocktail list playing second fiddle to a wide range of accessibly priced wine.
