Where To Eat And Drink In… Blackheath | Londonist

The Everest Inn offers fantastic Nepalese and Indian dishes, while a window seat at Taste Of Raj provides grand views over the heath and a tasty, although fairly predictable, Indian menu.

As the name suggests, it’s right next to the station so good for a Neame’s The Crown has a great seating area out the front and the beer is pretty good too.

The British Oak, on Old Dover Road, is a traditional Victorian place that, along with a good selection of beers and wines, serves trusty Pieminister pies.

Blackheath’s bar scene still leaves a little to be desired, however, there is a fantastic little wine bar, Le Bouchon on Tranquil Vale.

Zerodegrees is a hard one to classify; it’s a microbrewery, restaurant, bar hybrid serving up great beers along with pizza, pasta and perfectly-portioned kilo pots of mussels.

Hand Made Food is a growing independent cafe/deli, restaurant and catering company based in Blackheath Village in South-East London.

We cater all over London and the surrounding counties, primarily weddings but also a number of other private and corporate events.

We offer a comprehensive service and design bespoke menus and tailor events to suit each new client's particular needs.

We are a small team and are looking for a like-minded new person to join the company.

We are in a period of growth and this person would have an opportunity to progress in the company as we expand to new venues and add new clients to our corporate portfolio.

Lucky Chip, Dalston: Restaurant Review - olive magazine

What began life as a humble London Fields burger stall has now evolved into a sleek, stylish restaurant complete with a la carte menu and extensive wine list.

Ben Denner, the man behind Dalston’s Lucky Chip, has spent the last five years developing his burgers and hoarding interiors for the new space on Ridley Road (we love the retro lampshades and black/red colour scheme).

In a radical change from such basic beginnings, Lucky Chip diners are encouraged to take their time over a three-course meal and lovely wine – upon the waiter’s recommendation we tried the 2002 Waipara West New Zealand Chardonnay, a soft, honey-coloured white that reminded us of crème brûlée.

Chips were skinny and salty, just as they should be, but although truffle and Gorgonzola fries are hard to resist, regular fries are probably a better match for the punchy flavours present in a Lucky Chip burger.

And it’s open to everyone – enjoy a burger and beer for under £15, or blow more than £50 on beautiful Galician steak and a rare bottle of vintage wine.

Open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner, the refined, seasonal menu at Upstairs at The Guildford arms, created by executive chef Simon Wills and Guy Awford is built around locally sourced and wild ingredients and designed to deliver natural flavours.

Working alongside chef director Guy Awford, Simon and his team produce modern and innovative food using the freshest ingredients from their carefully handpicked suppliers, from Dave & Tim from Blackwoods Cheese Company in Brockley to Miles and his team of foragers from Kent.

Complex but never overcomplicated, simple ingredients are transformed into exciting combinations with perfectly balanced flavours.

Downstairs the pub focuses on high-quality rustic specials, bar snacks and sweet things inspired by the owner’s Blackheath traiteur Hand made Food.

Beautiful food, in presentation and flavour, is just the start here.

It’s the least you can expect from a restaurant where it’s £29.50 for three courses.

A starter of smoked mackerel with celeriac and horseradish remoulade was creamy, crunchy and deeply flavoursome, while another dish featured a few slices of stunningly tasty duck ham cured by the restaurant itself, paired with segments of blood orange, chunks of walnut and a chicory and kohlrabi salad.

I could go on by describing the perfectly cooked pheasant breast that followed, or the roast cod that had a gorgeous golden crust, or the vibrant dukkah dip served just after we sat down so that our immediate hunger was sated, but there’s no point: you won’t be able to try these dishes because the menu here changes every week.

There’s wine too, of course, all natural and organic and carefully sourced, which comes as no surprise from a place that puts so much care and attention into everything it does.

So go ahead and book a table before the word gets around.
