Grenadier in Belgravia, London Pub Review and Details

Review analysis
drinks

I called in for a drink on Sun 12th July with an Italian friend.

She couldn't pour a pint; started putting lager in a bitter top sloshed a bottle of ginger beer into a glass and had no ice.

A pub with no ice in summer in the middle of London?

She then tried to charge us £17.60 for four drinks (pint of bitter, half a bitter top, a coke and a bottle of ginger beer.)

Had I not wanted to avoid causing a scene in front of my friend I would have told her to keep the drinks and would have walked out.

The Grenadier - Wikipedia

The Grenadier is a public house in Belgravia, London.

It was originally built in 1720 as the officers' mess for the senior infantry regiment of the British army, the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards and so was located in a courtyard of their barracks.

It was opened to the public in 1818 as The Guardsman and was subsequently renamed in honour of the Grenadier Guards' actions in the Battle of Waterloo.

[1] Being secluded in a wealthy district of London, it was frequented in the past by the Duke of Wellington and King George IV, and continues to attract an elite clientele such as Madonna and Prince William, and LSE Global Politics students.

This pub was editorially chosen for inclusion by Londonist.

This bashful little drinking den hides round a dogleg in a cobbled mews labelled 'private road'.

His spirit is said to haunt the pub, every September.

Best to experience this place on a weekday afternoon, when the small front bar is at its quietest.

That said, on our last visit, the bar was propped up by a group of finance wankers discussing their various tax avoidance wheezes in loud braying voices.

Grenadier Pub Mayfair | London Pub Reviews | DesignMyNight

The Grenadier Pub in Mayfair has a strong sense of history to it with claims that the pub is in fact haunted by the ghost of an officer who was flogged to death for cheating at cards here.

Paranormal presence or not this is a pub with a long record of military history and it€™s easy to see why admirals would like it here: Bayonets and sabres, a breast-plate and bear-skin are some of the original decorations that brace the walls of the Grenadier Pub.

The menu is essentially pub food with home-made burgers, fish and chips, sausage and mash.

The Grenadier himself would probably have gone for a pint of one of their real ales but there are plenty of drinks to choose from at this Mayfair pub.
