The Alfred Tennyson Restaurant Review: A Refurbished Belgravia ...

Just a few things you can expect from and new and improved The Alfred Tennyson in Belgravia.

The kitchen here works closely with independent suppliers creating “farm to plate” dining, with an emphasis on keeping things simple without compromising on quality.

The absolute favourite was the White Park beef croquettes, served with a green peppercorn mayonnaise for dipping.

The Guinness onions, fries and creamy béarnaise helped only compliment such a lovely plate of food.

Good quality locally sourced food, a lovely dining room and excellent desserts.

quietness

London is famous for a lot of things, but being quiet isn't usually one of them.

Yet for those familiar with the streets of SW, you'll know there are quiet spots hidden in the labyrinth of the quaint houses that line Belgravia.

It is those streets I walked along as I made my way to The Alfred Tennyson, reaching Motcomb Street.

It's quiet, but the corners are lined with small shops - it's like being taken back to a regency London.

On the corner stands the newly refurbished Alfred Tennyson, named after the Poet Laureate - and aptly so, as we were there for National Poetry Day.

New Look at Belgravia's Favourite, The Alfred Tennyson

Part of the Cubitt House group, The Alfred Tennyson (formerly The Pantechnicon) is a pub in Belgravia for those who want to feel like they are back in the countryside albeit a London take on the country pub.

The Look: Working with interior design agency Coriander Buildings (Disrepute, Rum Kitchen, Riding House Café), Cubitt House has completely redesigned The Alfred Tennyson.

What We Ate: Having earlier had a discussion about what makes a good Scotch egg (there’s an insight into office chat at The Handbook), I had them on mind, so it seemed only right that I ordered the Middle White pork Scotch egg.

The Scotch egg at The Alfred Tennyson scored 2/3, the pork rather lacking in flavour.

With the nights drawing in, change your alfresco drinking (on non-polluted London terraces) for a snug corner of The Alfred Tennyson, order a bottle of wine and a venison burger and say hello to the weekend.

This grand old spot was once a repository for works of art, stored in a high-ceilinged space behind Doric columns.

Faithfully restored, it’s now flooded with natural light and lined with oak tables and leather chairs – a place for art dealers in smart, stripy shirts to entertain and network over braised pork belly or saddle of Devon lamb.
