Enoteca Turi Restaurant - About our Food

Our menu is inspired by regional Italian cuisine which adapts traditional methods of cooking to the contemporary restaurant scene.

One look will tell you that we have not compromised our dishes, and the unusual ingredients on our menu are not often seen outside their traditional region in Italy.

Giuseppe Turi has always understood the importance of the raw ingredients used in cooking.

He believes this is the only way to ensure that the quality of the dishes he is serving his customers remains consistently high.

And when you are a local restaurant with a large regular clientele, this is especially important.

Enoteca Turi's - Private Dining

Our Dining Cellar which seats up to 28 is open for reservations.

A really good local restaurant is an important part of the local community, and at Enoteca Turi we have played host to first dates that turned into wedding parties; we have witnessed many of our customers' most important occasions from christenings and graduations to birthdays and anniversaries, promotions and retirements.

We are told by some that Enoteca Turi is where they come to celebrate their special occasions, and by others that coming to Enoteca Turi is a special occasion in itself.

When you are holding a party, we will be delighted to help you put together a mouth-watering menu and choose the perfect wines to complement - whatever the occasion.

The Proprietors, Giuseppe and Pamela Turi Giuseppe Turi, originally from Puglia, came to London in 1982, where he joined the Athenaeum Hotel, and became the Sommelier.

He then rejoined the Athenaeum in 1987 as Restaurant Manager, and left to open Enoteca Turi in 1990.

On opening Enoteca Turi, Giuseppe immediately realised that being Italian did not automatically provide him with the knowledge of its complex food heritage, and understood that a lot of work would be needed to build the Italian restaurant he had envisaged.

At Enoteca Turi, Cesare has been entrusted with the task of pushing forward the vision of excellent customer service to an even higher level.

Opening Times Monday - Thursday, Lunch 12.00 - 14.30, Dinner 18.00 - 22.30 Friday & Saturday, Lunch 12.00 - 14.30, Dinner 18.00 - 23.00 Enoteca Turi wins Wine list of the Year from among shortlist of 4 Giuseppe Turi’s magnificent Pimlico Italian restaurant, Enoteca Turi won the award for London’s Most Interesting Wine List, thanks to Sig Turi’s “wonderful list, embellished by his own personal remarks”.

In 1962 The London Daily Sketch ran a feature claiming that on one particular night the following people ate dinner at Soho’s La Trattoria Terrazza: Ingrid Bergman, Leslie Caron, Danny Kaye, David Niven, Gregory Peck, Laurence Harvey, Sammy Davis Jr, Michael Caine, Julie Christie, Terence Stamp, David Bailey and Jean Shrimpton.

I’m eating Italian food in SW1 attempting to explain to my young companion the influence on London’s restaurants of Mario Cassandro and Franco Lagattolla, founders of what became known as The Trat.

Mario and Franco opened more restaurants — eventually selling out and becoming millionaires — and their staff, having grasped the formula, left to open copies, many of them located in SW3 and SW1.

New to this area is Enoteca Turi, which last year, after 25 years — and with no connection to Mario and Franco — moved from Putney to Pimlico Road.

It was hearing about the arrival of chef Francesco Sodano, also originally hailing from Naples with experience in various eminent restaurants in Rome, that made me visit — that and remembrance of good times past with Giuseppe Turi’s deep-rooted Italian wine list — here is an enoteca not a trattoria.

Over the past 26 years, husband and wife team Giuseppe and Pamela Turi have been building their portfolio of regional dishes and wines, with a menu that, I am told, changes five to six times a year.

Each simply described dish is listed alongside its region of origin, as well as the recommended wine from Enoteca Turi’s extensive wine collection.

For starters we order Pan fried scallops, papa al Pomodoro, cime di rape and squid ink sauce (£15) from Tuscany and Organic beef tartare, asparagus two ways, candied lemon and smoked Piedmont blue cheese (£16) from Piemonte.

For our mains, we eat Gragano artisan pasta with organic beef and onion ragout, raw and cooked cauliflower (£18.50) from Campania and Risotto with lamb sweetbread, fresh broad beans and pecorino romano (£19) from Lazio.

Again, the wine pairings: the artisan pasta is served with a glass of red Barbaresco Asili, which absolutely carries the richness of the beef.

Please note, Enoteca Turi recently moved to this location from Putney High Street.

We arrived on a rain-lashed Wednesday evening to find this long-standing Putney local positively buzzing.

In keeping with its name, Enoteca Turi has a particularly strong all-Italian wine list packed with treasures – our recommendation, an elegant pecorino, was spot-on.

Enoteca Turi’s kitchen could do with more consistency and a few wow factors.

The decor feels a little dated too, but the restaurant’s plus points – a convivial atmosphere, great wines, faultless service and a warm heart – are proving a winning formula in a neighbourhood overrun with soulless chains.
